The Sterling Gramophone Is NOT a Skill Item

One of the most talked about items in The Sims Social lately has been The Sterling Gramophone, which has provided tones of twists and turns in its story of arrival to The Sims Social online Facebook game.

At first we understand the Gramophone would be a Skill Item with a release date set for this Monday, which then quickly changed into the Music Skill Item being released on Monday as part of the New Snowman Mystery Boxes. This is partly true, apart from them being released earlier than expected and the fact that The Gramophone is no longer a Skill Item.

In order to own this VERY RARE Limited Edition Item in The Sims Social you must have collected all 24 items from the Snowman Mystery Boxes. Even though the description for The Sterling Gramophone States it costs 60 SimCash, in fact the lowest possible amount of SimCash needed to own this vintage stereo system is 144 SimCash and that doesn't include any duplicate Snowman parts you may receive by buying the random Mystery Boxes.

So if the New Gramophone doesn't offer any Skill Levels to master, I guess you would like to know what in fact it does do? Well, The Sterling Gramophone will raise your 'Fun' need by performing one of five music interactions which are very similar to previous Stereos released into the game.

What do you make of the whole Gramophone debacle? Have you or will you be attempting to collect all 24 Snowman parts in order to be the proud owner of this old fashioned funky sound machine? Share your thoughts with us via Facebook, Twitter, Forum, Chat or in the Comments below.

  2. O well, I guess I will be getting it

  3. Well it's pretty sweet decoration, I'd rather pay to get this over the photo booth or pink jacuzzi. Just sayin.

  4. Well I'm not gonna be able to obtain it anyway so I don't really care if it's an skill item or not ;P
But if I where trying to collect all the snowmen I think I would be a bit upset that it's just a stereo, although a beautiful one^^

  5. I'm so confused! You guys keep changing this, all up! Make up your freaking mind! Make up MY mind! omg! Fine! It's not a skill item! I'm getting upset over this game! Whatever! And, I don't care! I'm not interested in this, yet, another... SIM CASH item!

  6. *Sim Cash! Ugh!

  7. That, as well as the SimCash, just makes it suck even more, imho! I assumed it was at least a music player, like the radios? But probably not even that? It blows... :P

  8. Collect 24 snowman parts to get an item? No way. And I really wanted it.. it goes with my house. Bummer. :(

  9. If they give away all the snoman parts in boxes for free then yes. If I have to spend to randomly buy them all,and might not even get a different one each time, then HELL NO. thats stupid, I want this item very much and I think I ought to have been able to BUY the item outright with cash or simoleons not all these stupid expensive boxes. I am very mad that this is the way they made this available. I think the fansite ought to give us all one just cuz of how unfair this is

  10. Yah...right what a rip off, this is horrible. Another GAMBLING item, no thanks.

  11. Well, now I'm even less interested in both the gramophone and the snowmen. 24 parts needed to own the gramophone, with a high chance of getting duplicate snowman parts (and therefore wasting more money to buy more parts), for a chance to own an item that I just now learned won't even be a skill item??? Very disappointing.

  12. I will not be attempting.

  13. The reduced price of the boxes isn't helping. I'm not going to bother with this when all you get is a glorified radio. I bought the mystery boxes before and got the same two items 4x each. If there was a guarantee that you won't get repeat items, maybe. At the moment, its a waste of money.

  14. What a way to mess up a really great initial idea. So essentially the gammophone costs 144 sim cash, and that's only if you were lucky enough to get a different snowman/item EACH TIME. Wow....awful

    Great decision Zynga. Not.

  15. Let me tell you guys, I will stop buying this boxes because is random the way that things appear. I spend over 80 sims cash in those iceman that do not add enough to my house. Why you just put it with sims cash... o I kno that because the only thing that pass through your mind is money money money.

  16. Have had enough of this crazy madness for "Rare Item". I have seen this trick in farmVille, which is the worst game on facebook in terms of cheating on the gamers.

  17. Why is this vintage gramophone and other new Victorian stuff have all covered with the simcash pricetag?? Seriously?!

  18. LMMFAO YEAH RIGHT!!!! You think because its a reduced price I will buy it when in fact its twice as many things I need to collect AKA the same ridiculously expensive price? NO WAY. The sad thing is I truly love this item and would buy it except for it being a rip off. The random possibility of getting multiples is just the icing on this cake of crap. Does EA games not realize we are in a recession? You think we all can just throw away money constantly? I can afford some Sim cash every now and then but this is insane not to mention the random Saturday items 140+ You would think they would slash prices for Christmas when they know we all have gifts to buy IN REAL LIFE but what ever.

  19. If you could collect all the snowmen for quests rather than paying simcash for random snowmen in boxes, it would have been better instead.

  20. NOT A CHANCE!!!!

  21. I feel like a chump. I used all 160 of my sims cash as soon as the new box appeared. I should have waited for this review. Not a skill item?!?! Wth? I would have never wasted that much sim cash.

  22. So for buying about 30 packages (more like 300 with all the repeats we'd be sure to get), the reward is a stereo.
That's just about the most insane money-making ploy I've seen in a Facebook game yet. And that's saying something. Grats, Fishies!

  23. bought some and was a total waste of money.what the crap is this.

  24. I play The Sims just for fun,but I will never pay real money to buy items,it's silly

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree. I would never spend real money for an /in-game/ item! Why spend money on a pixel gramophone?!

    ReplyDelete
  26. It is very nice and if it was an item in the shop I would buy it. But I am not wasting money trying to collect snowmen, with no guarantee you will be able to get them all, just to get this item.
