Careers FAQ

What are Career Points? (are they separate from XP? Will I still earn XP from Careers)
Yes - whenever you go to work, you will earn Career Points. Get enough and you will unlock the next promotion quest! You will however, earn XP from every job completed which will help you level up in the game.

Will the earning of simoleons be comparable to what my Sim can earn through using Skill Items?
Doing jobs in Careers uses a single Energy when you the job is ready to complete, and the higher up you get in Careers, the better your rewards. Also, the longer appointments will give you better payouts as well! Get promoted, arrive on time, master each jobs and you’ll soon see the benefits of working on a Career!

Are there going to be more Careers?
Yes - we’re working on them! If you have suggestions, let us know and the team will have a look!

Will I be able to work on more than one Career at the same time?
Sorry, you won’t be able to do this. However, you can switch careers but may lose some Career Points in the Career that you are switching away from:

Any Career Points since your last promotion will be lost. However, you won't lose any if a promotion quest is unlocked but not completed. Also, any jobs in progress will be cancelled.

So we recommend the best time to switch a Career is when you have just been promoted or are at a promotion point but not yet completed it yet.

What happens when I reach the top of my Career? Can I start another one?
When you have reached the current available highest Promotion of your Career, you can always switch to a different Career and try to get to the top of that one! There will, however be more levels coming later! And with new Careers coming soon, you’ll always have a new promotion to be working toward!

How much energy will I be using when I go to work?
Different jobs need different amounts of Energy. So you’re looking at a range of 1 to 3 depending on how you want your Sim to do!

  1. This isn't very helpful information. For instance when I chose my career, Rock Star, I was told to "practice cords" or something but had NO idea what to practice on! People found out to just let the time lapse by having the time run out but going nuts in the mean time trying to figure out how to practice. Now that that's complete to we stay on that same task, move on to the next or what??? We still have the option to do the 10min one & what are the 3 stars for in the upper left corner of the task boxes, does that mean we do each task 3X??? Do we do each task 1X??? There's NO instruction & the little there is isn't helpful. The scale above the tasks barely has a smidgen of a green line for the 1 10min task I completed but it shows I'm onto #2 WHAT does this all mean??? In all the other quests & tasks, lets take the snake charmer for example, once we received the treasure we had to complete snake charming to get the door but we had a clear scale for each step to see how much further we had to go. Then we get the door, which should have been reward enough but wasn't, & we have to build that but it has a clear scale to show our progress. NO one has any clue what the scale means of how to move it along in the careers, we don't know how many of each task we need to complete. This roll out was horribly unexplained & just added more frustration to the already frustrated players & thats due to ALL the unresolved problems in the game & unanswered complaints.

  4. How about careers in which you interact with other SIMS in real time? BAck in the day of Sims Online you could go to work in a restraunt and join a friend for interactive job duty. Like took the order from the customer and called it in and the other one delivered it. Cooperative play!

  5. I agree. This career thing is a joke!

  6. I probably wait for more careers. There's only three which is so limited. Maybe there should be more such as business man, scientist, doctor, architect etc

  7. Suggestions? I guess the 2 remaining skills are a must: writer (either as a journalist or literary - maybe both?) and sports-related (either as a sports star, or as fitness instructor). And while at it, add gardener, handyman (to go with the "repairing" trait), private investigator (code zero, people!), veterinary (or something animal-related, to deal with all the thingies that appear around the gardens, or the mayan snake, etc)...

  8. Why do I have to spend simoleons in this career task? And if I am already past the level that is need for a certain career task what then? I already regret starting it and wish I hadn't even bothered!

  9. I agree with all of these complaints. There's no instructions or help to figure out how to do. It's frustrating and annoying..

  10. I haven't played for awhile but when I choose a cook, there is no option to perform the task. Either I hit cancel appointment

  14. I'd love to have a doctor career available. Also some careers, which allow users to interact with their neighbors at least. For example a maintenance specialist, housekeeper, contractor etc.
By the way when you click to book that specific activity,no further action is necessary. You just wait for the amount of time you see and then click "Go to work"button to complete the task. You pay with Simcash for instant completion of the task only.

  15. I don't understand "practice scales 5 times"
what am I supposed to practice on?

  16. How do i change my career?

    ReplyDelete
  17. You don't practise on anything you just let the time lapse and check back on time to get a bonus. You're expecting it to take way more effort than it actually does!

  18. after completing a career we should get clothing , like a rocker should receive rocker hair and clothing etc...

  19. what does Practice scales mean?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Here's the thing, the careers are MUCH simpler than everyone is making them out to be. Common sense people. Here's my guide.
-- If you hover over the 3 stars in the task boxes it will tell you how many more times you need to complete the task to earn another star (eg 3/18)
-- Completing these tasks earns career points (the brown suitcase icon)
-- When you go to be promoted, it says you need to HAVE at least a level 10 music/cooking/art skill, not EARN another 10 skill levels.
-- When it says "practice scales" or "wash forks and spoons" to get promoted, it's one of your career tasks in the JOBS panel that you need to complete X amount of times.
--The green bar scale in the top of the box will fill up with the career points you earn, symbolized by the brown suitcase. The longer the task, the more you earn, the faster it fills up.
-- If you want to change your career, in the upper left hand corner is a little pencil....if you hover over it it will say "Check Out More Careers" click that.
-- EA is not making this about the money, if you don't have the time to complete the careers, simply do not do them. It's not mandatory, and nothing has to be paid for to complete.

  23. To say that we don't have common sense because we had more questions is frankly quite insulting and actually sounded a little defensive to me. Obviously there was more information to convey about this new aspect of the game or your next post would not have been filled with so much valuable information. Information that would have been helpful on the original post. I can understand your exasperation with us, and we can all hear it in your post, but thorough communication is key. I think a little patient professionalism would have been in order, but thank you for finally taking the time to give us all the information.

  28. I´m in level 5 and I have not received the prize of level 4. It was a shirt and a blue guitar but I have only the shirt... where is my guitar????

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^^ the blue guitar is the icon for the career. you don't get a blue guitar. it's not even the same animation style.

  30. guys... it's not that hard. you are overanalyzing the game way too much. you don't do the career stuff in your game. you just click on it and then the timer will tell you when your time is up to go collect your money and rewards. while you are waiting, you play the game regularly. don't go looking for actual stars or hairbrushes or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Maybe it's just me but, Come on seriously?
if even kids can understand this game why cant you all?

stop thinking this as some complicated game, when the answer is just glaring at you all.. -___-
