Home of the Month | March 2013 Round #6

Round #6 is finally here and it completes the top 25 for the HOTM March 2013 contest. In total we had over 500 entries from this month and July and August.  Did we mention that the Fansite reaches hundreds of thousands of Sims players from around the world making the HOTM contest as the contest to win!? We did? Well, we will most likely keep mentioning it as we are proud to be the biggest Fansite for TSS and we want to thank each and every one of you for your support! We couldn’t have done it without you!

VOTING BEGINS APRIL 3rd!!! The top 25 entries will be posted on our Fansite Page HOTM Album from April 3rd to April 9th, 2013 to be voted on by you.

IMPORTANT: In order for votes to count the voter must “like” our Fansite page. Also, in order for the entry to count the designer must “like” our Fansite page as well.

The top four and winner will be determined through points gained from the number of eligible ‘likes’ they receive from you as well as points afforded by our Fansite staff based on the designs Style, Space, Design, Flow, Composition, Artistic Elements (texture, form, shape, colour, line and tone), Creativity, and Originality regardless of Sim Cash items, house value or use of expert stacking and design techniques. The winner will be announced on April 12th, 2013. Good luck!

Stephen23’s – Hello Kitty

Stephen23’s ‘Hello Kitty’ is simply ‘the best thing ever’ to use the vernacular of today’s youth. Seriously, this resembles three-dimensional tile art, and as we all know Stephen is the King of tile art! What makes this design so spectacular you ask? Well, to begin with, um – everything! This design took a tremendous amount of creativity, skill and imagination. The expert stacking to make ‘Hello Kitty’s’ face is stunning. We dropped by to get a closer look and Stephen greeted us with delicious pink frosted cupcakes and hot chocolate. Yum! Seeing this house up close and personal was amazing as we were able to appreciate the detail that we missed the first time around.  We give this home a ‘10 out of 10’ for creativity!

Jess D’s – Sassy and Funky

Jess D’s Sassy and Funky home is the perfect bachelorette pad ever! We totally love the eye popping red, black and white colour palette with just enough green shrubbery to really make this design scream –“pick me, pick me!”  Jess had both fridges stocked to the brim with a variety of cocktail ingredients, cheeses, cold cuts and deserts. I think the Fansite staff have all gained a few pounds from our weekend stay at Jess D’s fab pad. Oh, ya – we’ll be back soon for round two.

Lisa Hug’s – Spring Infusion

We named this design “Spring Infusion” as we at the Fansite are so tired of winter and all the snow and thought this design showed promise that spring is just around the corner!  This design is simply beautiful and a good example of a great design without having to use stacking techniques.  Lisa’s green, gold and brown colour palette is unusual yet eye-catching.  (Design tip: Sticking to a colour theme like Lisa did really helps to bring a design together). Lisa creates the illusion of stairs by alternating tiles and placing square shrubbery along the sides.  Lisa also employs the grouping technique to group shrubs and trees together. Learn more about design techniques by visiting our soon to be launched design tips section on our Fansite.

LEQ’s – The Wedding

Who wouldn’t want to have their Sims wedding here? LEQ employed many art elements and principles in creating this perfect wedding destination.  She used diagonal ‘lines’, mixed colour value of light and dark, repetition, balance, pattern and unity.  The simple, but effective white, fuchsia and green colour palette really makes this design work.  Although one might not notice it at first glance, LEQ used the orphan door/ picture technique to create the back wall and floating hearts. We like how the technique doesn’t subsume the design as can happen when too many techniques overshadow a design.  We heard through the grapevine that LEQ is designing more wedding designations and is booking weddings as we speak. So hurry and book your wedding soon! Her weddings are expensive, but hey, you get what you pay for.

Jen’s – Guitar Island

Jen is one of the most, if not the most creative designer in the Sims universe.  Her imagination is par none and this is just one of the many examples of her stellar work. Guitar Island is fun and fanciful and took a huge amount of planning, stacking and of course, imagination. Jen uses filing cabinets to form the neck and frets, bedside tables and three mirrors to form the bridge, and cabinets and office chairs to create the tuners. It must have taken her hours just to decide on the perfect items to create this three dimensional bigger than life guitar. Some people think outside of the box but with Jen there simply is no box! Jen is the Queen of creativity - don't you agree?!
